table

36 Edgewood Ave, New Haven, CT. October 2019

In the center of a space, there is a table covered by a white tablecloth, lit to draw the eyes to it. On the cloth, there is the beginning of a phrase, the beginning of a border, cross-stitched: “This is my body. This is my” – interrupted by a needle marking where someone must continue. Viewers stand waiting. The artist enters nude. She approaches the center of the table and bows. She pulls the end of a piece of red thread from her vagina and threads the waiting needle. She sits and begins stitching. After some time, she finishes the sentence, ‘This is my blood.’ She stands up and cuts the thread still coming from inside her. She moves back to face the center of the table, bows again, and exits. The piece ends.
